18.21 Man Made hail from Texas and is owned and operated by three hard working gents. They take pride in creating premium, uncommon goods and are inspired by the bootlegging culture during the American prohibition period. The name 18.21 Man Made pays homage to the 18th amendment which started the prohibition and was then later replaced by the 21st amendment. The approach taken by 18.21 Man Made is to always provide uncommon goods that feel uniquely American and provide a nostalgic yet modern grooming experience. 18.21 Man Made products come in two main scents, being Sweet Tobacco and Spiced Vanilla, both of which are amazing and we highly recommend. The brand also has a decent range of products including pomades and clays, beard balms, deodorants, body wash and cologne. We highly recommend all their products but today we are focusing on their Clay Pomade. 

Packaging

The Clay Pomade comes in a sturdy clear glass jar with metal screw top lid. The packaging feels solid and heavy to hold and feels like it would withstand some substantial punishment in a kit bag or gym bag. The glass jar is largely covered by a large black label with white writing on it that wraps around 100% of the jar. The label is high quality and waterproof and again will stand up to some significant punishment. The metal lid has the 18.21 brand stamp and slogan on it in high quality print. The packaging aligns with the 18.21 Man Made style of vintage inspired combined with modern touches. 

Initial Impressions

Upon opening the jar you'll find a lighter than normal greyish coloured clay pomade and will instantly get your initial whiff of the amaxing scent. The scent is the real star here with the renown 18.21 Man Made Sweet Tobacco scent. A long lasting aroma made from a combination of saffron, hints of tonka beans, manuka honey and dark-toned vanilla. Its smooth, rich and very well balanced as well as being long lasting. 

Consistency & Application  

18.21 Man Made Clay is actually a blend of clay, wax and elastic fibers that provides a medium hold. It's easy to apply as the consistency is on the softer side allowing you to easily scope some out of the jar with your finger, rub in the palm of your hands and spread on your hair. The softer consistency means that spreading the product evenly throughout your hair is easy resulting in a nice even distribution. Being water soluble its also easy to wash out at the end of the day. 

Hold and Shine

This clay has a medium hold and matte-finish. It is best for thin or fine hair and in our tests it works perfect in those with shorter hair. We found it particularly good at providing a textured look or messy style. It has a naturally soft and non greasy formula meaning that you can restyle several times throughout the day.

Overall 18.21 Man Made Clay is an awesome product. If you are looking for a hair clay that provides a long lasting matte look with an amazing masculine scent then look no further. 18.21 Man Made have done a great job here combining a premium product with a truly amazing scent that is longlasting. How To Use

Simply scoop it out of the jar, apply to damp or dry hair, then shape with your fingers, comb, or brush. Apply to wet hair and blow-dry for a thicker look. Pinch for more precise definition or buff the hair for more active texture, keeping in mind that a little goes a long way.
